NASA touches down on Mars
After a six-month and 458-million-kilometre journey, NASA’s InSight Lander has arrived on Mars. Its two-year mission will “study the deep interior of Mars”. It is NASA’s eighth landing on Mars. “This accomplishment represents the ingenuity of America and our international partners, and it serves as a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our team. The best of NASA is yet to come, and it is coming soon,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.
Adelaide tech precinct opened
South Australia’s new Innovation, Incubation Start-Up and Growth Hub at Lot Fourteen on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site has finally been opened. Officially named FIXE@Lot Fourteen, the state government is hoping the site will help South Australia establish itself as the “start-up state”. “The South Australian Government has an ambition to have a higher rate of business startups in our state than anywhere else in Australia,” said Premier Steven Marshall. It will focus on emerging industries such as cyber security, defence, space and robotics. The Duke of York KG Prince Andrew officially opened the site.
Create pizzas with AR
Domino’s has launched the world’s first augmented reality pizza chef. ‘Pizza Chef’ is now available on the company’s app and utilises both Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore. The software allows users to create and visualise their pizzas online before ordering. “Innovations such as the New Pizza Chef with Augmented Reality are important as they help us to continue to drive online sales, and with up to two million items sold online in one week, we know it’s important for us to always be making the online ordering experience more seamless, rewarding and memorable for our customers,” said Domino’s Group Chief Digital and Technology Officer Michael Gillespie.
