ACS Fellow and Honorary Life Member Ronald “Ron” Schmid has passed away, aged 91.
Ron was appointed an ACS Fellow in 1993 and awarded Honorary Life Membership in 1995. The honours recognise distinguished contributions to the field of ICT.
ACS President Beau Tydd said Ron “gave so much of himself over many years to the people and profession around him.”
“His passing is a profound loss to his family and friends and will be deeply felt by the many people across the technology community whose lives he touched,” Tydd said.
Ron served with ACS as its membership manager, where he was responsible for the grading of members from the late 1990s until his retirement in around 2003–04.
After retiring, Ron became a skills assessor with ACS’s Migration Skills Assessment program, assessing the qualifications and experience of technology professionals seeking to migrate to Australia.
Tydd said Ron’s legacy would be long remembered.
“When someone has contributed for as long and as generously as Ron did, their legacy is found in more than titles or achievements.
“It lives in the relationships they formed, the people they encouraged, the knowledge they shared, and the memories carried by those who knew them.”
A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held on Friday, 4 September, at 2pm at Magnolia Chapel, Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, North Ryde.
