As the term of my Presidency and 2017 comes to a close, the Management Committee of ACS and I take this opportunity to wish our members, partners, stakeholders and colleagues across Australia and the world a wonderful festive season and a prosperous 2018.

This year has been an incredible one for ACS; our achievements have been many.

With the launch of the new ACS Strategy focusing on the 3Cs (Capacity, Capability, Catalyst), and the deployment of the new ACS technology platform and Digital Business Strategy, ACS is in a position to exceed the expectations for another 50 years.

One of the many highlights for me was the introduction of our Certified Professional (Cyber Security) and Certified Technologist (Cyber Security) certifications, which was advocated by the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Cyber Security, Alastair MacGibbon. The Cyber Security specialism was unveiled by the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Cyber Security, the Hon Dan Tehan, in Canberra. For the first time, Australia has a way to recognise and allow ICT professionals to validate their expertise in this discipline and provide a clear benchmark for industry and government.

We have also made our work available internationally to the International Federation for Information Processing’s International Professional Practice Partnership (IFIP/IP3). The international certification will be launched at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva during the week.

I would like to express my appreciation to the ACS team and acknowledge the significant efforts of the Management Committee, Congress, Branch Executive Committees (BECs), SIGs and Chapters across Australia and overseas, the ACS CEO, members of staff and our many partners, stakeholders and volunteers for their continued commitment and support to the success of ACS.

To all of you: thank you. Your efforts have led us to reach new heights in 2017.

Have a happy and safe festive season, and our best wishes for the new year.

Anthony Wong
President, ACS
