Pop culture and gaming event Supanova is set to host a “careers extravaganza” as part of a new bonus day hosted by ACS — the peak body for Australia’s technology industry and the publisher of Information Age — to promote exciting tech jobs to young people.

The national expo is held annually in six locations around Australia.

Traditionally a two-day weekend event, the first three-day Supanova will run in Brisbane from 8 to 10 November, and will feature the ACS ‘Level Up Career Extravaganza’ on the first day (Friday).

Gaming studio Riot Games — creators of Valorant and League of Legends — will be among the guests at the event to encourage the next generation of game designers, graphic artists, and coders, said its Sydney studio head Naresh Hirani.

“When ACS approached us with this innovative outreach idea, we immediately saw its potential to align with Riot Sydney's mission of inspiring the next generation of game creators in Australia,” he said.

“The Level Up Career Extravaganza will play a crucial role in nurturing Australian talent from all backgrounds and contributing to the growth and vibrancy of our video games industry.”

High school and tertiary students (and members of the general public) will be able to immerse themselves in interactive experiences, demos and seminar sessions about career opportunities, across four stages.

ACS CEO Josh Griggs said the organisation was passionate about reaching the next generation of technology professionals.

“The best way to do this is going to where they want to be,” he said, “and Supanova fits that bill perfectly.

"We are delighted to be collaborating with the team at Supanova for this Level Up Career Extravaganza — our first being their 100th event — in Brisbane.”

Schools from around Queensland are being invited to attend the careers day, and teachers attending with students as part of a school excursion can attend free of charge.

The cost for anyone to attend the Level Up Career Extravaganza is $25 (ACS members get priority seating), and ACS student and graduate members as well as school students can attend all three days of Supanova for the discounted rate of $50.

Those interested in attending or wanting to know more about the complimentary ACS membership to access priority tickets, or hosting an industry booth at the ‘Level Up Career Extravaganza’ can register their interest here.

Last year, the Brisbane weekend event drew a crowd of 25,000 people interested in gaming, pop culture, and cosplay.

After Brisbane, Supanova will travel from the start of 2025 to Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Sydney, and Perth.
