The tech companies employees love most

Australian tech companies have featured strongly in a new ranking of the country’s best workplaces, particularly among small and medium-sized businesses.

Great Place To Work Australia’s annual list is based on survey responses from 128,000 workers, who provided quantitative and qualitative feedback on their organisation’s workplace culture and community impact.

The survey asks employees to rate 60 statements on a five-point scale, along with answering two open-ended questions.

Companies are then divided into four categories – large, medium, small and micro – and ranked according to their employees’ responses.

Tech companies feature across all four categories, with a particularly strong showing among medium-sized and smaller businesses.

The best large workplaces

Among companies with more than 1,000 employees, US tech giant Cisco was the highest-ranked technology company, coming in third overall.

Cisco has its local headquarters in Sydney.

The ranking comes just weeks after Cisco rolled out personal AI agents for all of its 90,000 workers around the world.

These agents are personalised to each worker and can autonomously accomplish a range of tasks for them.

Cybersecurity consultancy CyberCX was the fifth-best large workplace in the country.

“We continuously strive to create a workplace that is exciting, innovative, purpose-led and fulfilling to attract and retain top talent in our industry.

The best medium-sized workplaces

For companies with up to 999 employees, tech firms dominated the list, with eight firms cracking the top 30.

Sydney-based legal software provider Smokeball took out the top spot in the category.

Mantel, a tech consultancy offering end-to-end solutions in AI, data, digital, cybersecurity and cloud, came in at number four, the seventh year in a row it has featured in the list.

“At Mantel, being principles-led and making things between isn’t just what we do for our clients, it’s what we strive to do for our team too,” a Mantel LinkedIn post said.

“It’s proof that a people-first culture where our team is trusted and treated like adults, genuinely works.

“This recognition belongs to everyone at Mantel who helps create a place where talented people can do their best work, grow their careers and make a difference.”

Other tech firms in the best medium-sized workplaces in the country included Crowdstrike, AirTrunk, Carsales, Insight Australia, Protecht and Adobe.

The best small workplaces

Technology companies also performed strongly in the small workplace category, which covers businesses with between 30 and 99 employees.

Nine tech companies made the top 30, led by Macquarie Cloud Services, which topped the ranking for the third consecutive year.

“Three years at number one isn’t luck,” the company said in a LinkedIn post.

“It’s a standard our people set and keep resetting.

“It’s built in the everyday, the way our team shows up for each other, backs each other up and makes this a place people genuinely want to be.”

Tech consultancy V2 AI came in second, followed by CORTO and MaxSoft.
A number of other IT companies featured in the top 30, including Intelia, Quorum, Increment, Ansarada and Braze.
