Little-known Hornsby Liberal MP Matthew Kean has been charged with driving NSW’s innovation direction.
Appointed by the NSW Premier the Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP to the frontbench today, Kean is now the Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation.
He replaces Victor Dominello MP in a cabinet reshuffle, as a result of Health Minister Jillian Skinner quitting Parliament on Friday.
Most recently, Kean was Parliamentary Secretary for Treasury in the NSW Government, a position he held for two years, and has been the Member for Hornsby since 2011.
He holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a graduate diploma of Accounting from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (now Chartered Accountants Australian and New Zealand.)
According to his website, Kean is a “member of Waitara Rotary, Hornsby Lions, the Hornsby Chamber of Commerce, and plays cricket for Berowra Cricket Club.”
He is also “patron of the Asquith Magpies Rugby League Club, Hornsby Heights Soccer Club, Hornsby Rockets bowling for Disabled Hornsby Kuring-gai Relay for Life, Hornsby Gang Show and Life Education Australia.”
At time of publication, Kean had not issued a statement about his new appointment.
In other appointments, Dominello was promoted to Minister of Finance, Services and Property; Robert Stokes to Minister for Education, and Brad Hazzard takes on Health.
