A former ACS president has been elected to the role again, following the meeting of ACS National Congress yesterday.

Dr Nick Tate assumes the role from 1 January 2022 for two years. He was elected unopposed.

“It is a great honour to have been elected President at such an exciting time for ACS,” Dr Tate told Information Age.

“It is wonderful to have been entrusted with the role for a second time, albeit after some years.”

He was previously president from 2012 to 2013.

Dr Tate said he looked forward to bringing members and stakeholders together to form a common vision for what ACS should look like.

“In my view, this will include identifying and implementing the best constitutional arrangements that will give rise to that vision from the members; putting in place a new strategic plan for ACS which supports the members’ vision; and collaborating with volunteers and staff to improve member value, improve respect for our profession and improve respect for the ACS as an association of professionals.”

Currently in the role of National Vice President (Membership), and co-convenor of the Constitutional Reform Working Group (CRWG), Dr Tate previously held the office of branch chair of Queensland for a combined total of seven years, and has also been ACS national treasurer.

Dr Tate has more than 45 years of experience in the ICT sector.
