The ACS Indigenous Scholarship has been awarded for its fifth year with the prize being awarded to Warren Faulkner.
Awarded annually by Charles Darwin University, the scholarship supports and showcases indigenous achievement in Information Technology courses with the first being awarded in 2018.
ACS’ annual Digital Pulse report this year found only 0.66% of Australia’s technology workforce identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, which is a fifth of the national population share of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders at 3.3 per cent.
The scholarship is one of ACS’ initiatives to address that disparity.
The Award was presented during the annual Charles Darwin University Code Fair, founded in 2014 by CDU’s College of Engineering, IT and Environment, which showcases the work of students to the University and industry through a series of challenges and competitions.
Over 75 prizes and awards were on offer during the event, with the winners across different categories having the opportunity to compete for the NT Digital Excellence Award, hosted every two years by the Territory Government and supported by ACS.
