From the local offices of the biggest tech companies in the world to homegrown startups, several IT companies are among the best places to work at in Australia, according to a new report.
The annual list by research firm Great Place to Work ranks companies based on a 60-question survey completed by nearly 50,000 employees across Australia.
IT companies enjoyed high positions on the list, which is separated into four categories based on the number of employees at the organisation.
Global tech giant Cisco was named by Great Place to Work as the best place to work in Australia for large companies with more than 1,000 employees for the third time running. Based in North Sydney in NSW, Cisco’s Australia branch has just under 1,400 employees, and the report attributed much of its success in the list to the company’s overarching social purpose.
Cisco has a goal of positively impacting 1 billion people by 2025, and has reached 848 million people through its social impact grants and signature programs.
“No matter where you are on your Cisco career journey, there is always someone to listen to your ideas,” a Cisco employee quoted in the report said.
Cisco has topped the same list for the last three years, and was also included in the Diversity Council of Australia’s 30 inclusive employers list for 2022-23 – one of only two tech companies to be featured.
Homegrown tech giant Atlassian was named as the third best large company to work at in Australia, with positive feedback from its 3,387 employees across the country.
It’s the second year running that Atlassian has taken out the third position.
The relatively position on the list comes despite the company announcing earlier this year that it would be cutting 500 jobs in Australia.
The only other tech firm to feature in the large business category was Melbourne-based property platform REA Group, which came in at number five, a drop of one place from last year.
Tech giant Salesforce was a notable absentee on the list, after previously featuring in the top three for the last seven years running.
Another global tech firm was named as the best medium-sized company to work at in Australia, with Adobe’s Australian office landing the top position in the category for companies with between 100 and 999 employees.
Legal technology company InfoTrack, which is based in Sydney and has 336 employees, came in at number five in the same category.
“Our unique culture connects somewhere between a continual drive for improvement, a desire for innovation and a genuine need to put our people first,” InfoTrack head of culture and people Daniel Ko said.
“We are very proud of this accomplishment and will strive to continue to be the best workplace for everyone at InfoTrack.”
Other tech firms that featured in the best medium-sized companies to work at include Mantel Group, AirTrunk, DiUS, Qualtrics, Carsales.com.au and Prospa.
In terms of small workplaces with less than 99 employees, Macquarie Cloud Services was ranked as the second-best in Australia to work at.
One Macquarie Cloud Services employee was quoted in the report as saying the organisation had created an inclusive and supportive environment.
“It’s amazing to know I’m at a workplace that cares about me personally and professionally and they really do put their people first,” the employee said.
“This culture of support and care is seen across all employees, and I feel heartened to know that the belief in our company values is real and seen in everything we do.”
A number of other tech firms were included in the small company category, including Pendula, Engaging.io, Quorum, Kasada and Intelia.
For micro companies with less than 29 employees, IT companies Katana1, Gridware and triSearch were listed as among the best to work at.
